I don't know why, but getting a florist has been a colossal pain in the rear.
Huyen had taken time to go out and meet with a florist a few weeks back. Huyen explained to her that we were interested in going the minimalist route and managed to cut down costs significantly by just buying flowers from the woman rather than have her do the full-blown arranging. The woman was going to put together an estimate and mail it off to us within the week to sign.
A week passed and we hadn't heard from this woman, so Huyen called her. The woman said, "Oh, I mailed you a letter yesterday. I'm not going to be able to handle your wedding because a large wedding came up for that date." Talk about unethical.
So Huyen went to speak with the florist at the local supermarket. When she got there, the florist was putting price tags on some arrangements and told Huyen she had to make an appointment, even though it was clear she wasn't terribly busy at the time. But Huyen made an appointment anyway.
Two days before the appointment, the woman calls and has to cancel because she's "able to get off of work early that day." Oh. Nice. Break an appointment so you can go home early. Great business. After a few more phone calls back and forth, we still didn't have an appointment.
So we blew this woman off and ended up going with the first florist that we talked to that didn't talk down to us and didn't try to extravagantly oversell to us: Mr. Udo's. Added bonus: they do the flowers each Sunday for St. James, so they knew exactly what's required.
We've talked to a lot of schiesty, unethical, impersonal people throughout the process of planning our wedding, in every aspect (from caterers to florists to DJs). Fortunately, though, I feel confident with everyone we've chosen thusfar.
