Hien Campbell, mother of the bride
My mom is an amazing woman! It has taken me too long to realize that. I cannot fathom how much she risked to escape Vietnam in order to give her family a better future. She has taught me about hard work, strength, generosity, and adaptability. Now that I have quit arguing with her, we have learned to laugh together. My friends will attest that she makes the best eggrolls they have tasted! Best of all, she and Ryan get along greatthey like to watch horror movies together (add Ryder to the mix... scary!) Currently she lives in Iowa, but she will be visiting us for most of August. -H

Chuck Campbell, stepfather of the bride
My dad knows how to have a good timehe takes after Grandpa that way. Whenever I'm stressed, I know I can count on him for a bit of rest and relaxation. Clever, fun, and young at heart are apt descriptions. Some of his favorite "toys" include boats and cars. He is up-to-date on the latest movies on DVD and he enjoys hunting antiques and collectibles. Beaches and lakes are his playground. He has recently discovered a new playground that he will try in December... Costa Rica. In the meantime, Smith Mountain Lake is most likely where he will be this summer. I look forward to our time at the lake! -H

Geraldine MacMichael, mother of the groom
My mom was born in Philadelphia, PA, but was raised in the shore town of Wildwood, NJ. She taught in Bensalem for a few years, but stayed at home to raise Stacey and me. She's been substitute teaching in the local school system and volunteering in my elementary school's library for a long time. I credit my current, somewhat healthy eating habits to my mom never letting me eat sweet cereals when I was growing up. :) She and Huyen have been working together on a lot of the wedding planning and doing a great job. It's always a good start to married life when your significant other gets along well with your family. -R |

Warren MacMichael, father of the groom
My dad was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA and spent over three decades working in the Philadelphia school system. Though he and I have found we have almost no interests in common (he likes golf, easy listening, and building stuffenough said!), we're still quite close. When he comes to visit, I let him do yardwork and stuff around my house... I think he'd be destroyed if I didn't. Interesting fact: my dad's gone through a number of mustache/no mustache periods in his life, but he's never had a beard. -R |

Ryder Palmere, friend of the groom
I met Ryder during our freshman year of high school in Mr. Young's English class. Our only real connection was that we had the same shirt and occasionally wore it on the same day. Soon, though, we found our real common affinity: schlocky horror movies. Though Ryder lives in Philly and I'm in Virginia, we still get together every month or two and watch old horror movies on the big screen in New Jersey. Ryder works with a local theatre company and will someday direct films that make Hollywood green with envy. -R

Christine Fougerousse, friend of the bride
I met Christine in 7th Grade when I had just moved from California to Roanoke, Virginia... and coincidentally so had she! Over the years, her family adopted me since I hung out at her house so frequently. After high school she went back to California to go to college. She met her husband Jamie there and they were married in Roanoke after college. They moved to Texas where she is currently teaching high school English. She is a huge film and literature buff so teaching English is fitting. Christine taught me about self-confidence when I had so little of it in high school- I know she teaches much more than English in that classroom. She will forever be my hero- my big sister. -H

Katherine Shaver, friend of the bride
I met Katherine in 10th Grade when she was the new kid in town. She came from the tiny town of Murphy, North Carolina where everyone knows their neighbors and the Southern drawl and Southern hospitality are more pronounced. We loved and hated the same high school teachers, worked at our first fast food restaurant together, sympathized with each other about how unfair our parents were, and hung out late nights at the Waffle House. With Christine, we bonded over Indigo Girls and Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream. When Katherine went to the College of William and Mary, our friendship deepened and grew with us. I was ecstatic when Katherine and Ryan developed a friendship with little encouragement from me. Katherine recently married Chris, warm and friendly William and Mary alumnus. She is wrapping up her thesis for her graduate degree at Penn State and will be moving to North Carolina this summer. No matter what we do or where we go, I know our friendship will continue to grow. -H

Robert Thormeyer, friend of the groom
Rob and I met our freshman year of college. We lived on the same hall that year, were roommates during the summer before our senior year, and shared a townhouse for our first year out of college. Rob is currently living the bachelor's life in DC and is best buddies with the DC legend Blelvis (pictured here). -R

Matt Wright, friend of the groom
Matt and I met when he was a freshman in college and I was a senior, through the college radio station. He and I share a common love for hip-hop and professional wrestling. Matt recently graduated from MWC and is spending part of his summer travelling Europe. -R

Thi Campbell, sister of the bride
Born in California three years after me, my sister Thi did not have to worry about taking a U.S. citizenship test like my mom and I did. She currently lives in Harrisonburg, Virginia working and playing hard. I used to say she was the complete opposite of me, but as we grew older, I discovered we are more alike than I realized. We are still very different (especially since she is such an extrovert) but now we can talk without getting into a fight. I think one of the most devastating events in my childhood was when our birth father took my sister for three years after he and Mom divorced. When we finally got her back, she was the biggest brat ;) but I never regret having her back in my life. I love you, Seester (and thanks for wearing a dress to my wedding)! -H |

Stacey Guilfoy, sister of the groom
Stacey's four years my junior. She finished up the first part of her college career in NJ and will be completing her degree in Psychology at Old Dominion University later this year. She got married last October and is doing a great job of raising her daughter Julianna. -R |

Brian Burton, friend of the groom
Brian was my roommate freshman year in college as well as my suitemate during our senior year. Brian had a class with Huyen during our first semester and was the reason that Huyen and I met in the first place! If she didn't have to study for Geology, who knows if we would have run into each other. -R |

John Campbell, brother of the bride
John was born about ten years after me, and he is the baby of the family. I remember feeling him kick in Mom's stomach, watching his first steps, attending his first birthday party, and helping to feed and change him. Although he is my little brother, he has suddenly grown into a giant (and he hasn't stopped growing yet!) I went away to college and when I came back, I had taken his position as shortest member of the family. When he was born, the doctors predicted he would be six feet tall. Where did my *little* brother go? He is now intelligent, athletic, laid back, and really popular- much cooler than I ever was! The last time I asked him, he was thinking of going into engineering. (That sounds pretty cool even though I was hoping he would become a famous artist.) If a tall, dark and handsome young man escorts you to your pew, you'll know he's my brother John. At the risk of embarassing him, I'll say this: I love you John- you'll always be my "little" brother :) -H |
