Formal picture Huyen was named Huyen Ngoc Ly at birth in Can Tho, Vietnam on February 28, 1976. Her parents escaped the country with her before she reached the age of three. Her family resettled in Fresno, California where her sister Thi was born in 1979. When her mom married Chuck Campbell, they moved to Northern California. Her brother John Campbell was born in 1986. They moved to Roanoke, Virginia in 1988 where she attended Cave Spring Junior and Senior High Schools. Huyen Campbell became a naturalized United States citizen on July 4, 1992 at Monticello, Virginia. In high school she held offices in Art and Beta Clubs and was active in Symphonic, Marching, and All-District Bands. She graduated from Cave Spring High School with an advanced studies degree in 1994. Huyen attended Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia in the fall of 1994. In college she worked in Residence Life supervising student staffs and buildings. She was a photographer for the school newspaper and held a senior student art exhibit. She majored in studio art and graduated with honors in 1998.

Ryan was born on October 14, 1975 in New Jersey, where he lived most of his life. He attended elementary, middle, and high school in Medford, NJ, graduating from Shawnee High School in 1994. He also atteneded Mary Washington College and met Huyen in September of their freshman year. During college he worked for three years as a head desk aide (one year with Huyen as his direct supervisor!), spent a lot of time as both a DJ and the General Manager for the college's radio station, and working towards his B.S. in Computer Science. He graduated in 1998.

Informal picture After college, Huyen, her mom, and Ryan visited relatives in Vietnam for a month. Huyen and Ryan moved to Northern Virginia when they returned to the U.S. Ryan proposed marriage on their five year anniversary at the Green Tree Restaurant in Leesburg, VA. In April 2000 Huyen and Ryan moved into their first home, coincidentally, in Leesburg.

Ryan has been working as a Webmaster in Sterling, VA for a company that does software risk management consulting. In addition to maintaining his multitude of personal sites, he continues to make music, write, and mow the lawn when it gets too long.

Huyen began graduate work for a Master's Degree in Art Therapy at George Washington University in August 2000. She has completed an internship in an adult psychiatric hospital and is working with children for her second-year internship. She is attending her final year at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

Huyen and Ryan were married on September 1, 2001 in Leesburg, Virginia.
