Pictures: Mary's Wedding; May 19, 2001; Greenville, SC
It's hard to believe it was over half a decade since I'd seen my cousins Heather and Meredith. Every 4th of July my family would go to Bedford, PA and spend the holiday with the Thompsons and VanWinkles, but that tradition eventually petered out once the kids went to college. It's kind of unfortunate, as that was one of my favorite yearly traditions.
But, on May 19th, Meredith got married to Kevin Loftis. Huyen and I made the 9 hour trip to Greenville, SC for the wedding (returning home the very next day). It was great to see my cousins again I look forward to seeing them again at our wedding.
Here are some pictures from the event as well as the trip there and back. I do have a few more pictures that I will be posting here, but I'm waiting on other people for them (when they are added, it will be announced on the the front page).
![]() I was intrigued by these "runaway truck ramps" that I saw. Apparently, if a large truck is coming down the mountain and his brakes are failing, he can turn off onto one of these intimidating looking ramps and it'll stop him in his tracks. Some of the ones we passed had fresh tracks. |
![]() Mel's Diner in Gaffney, SC. I believe this is a psuedo-diner chain (similar to the Silver Diner), as Huyen saw one in another state a few months back. |

![]() My dad and my cousin Craig talk about the finer points of follicle rejuvenation. I can joke about this because I will be going through it in ten years. |
![]() Various members of my family huddle and talk. |

![]() I really wanted to stop at Sherri's Diner north of Gaffney, SC, but it's closed on Sundays. |
![]() In this shot of Sherri's, you can see that the sign boasts "Home cooked eals." |
![]() Never, ever have I seen an Isuzu Trooper so packed that the luggage had more room than the passenger in the back. Here's a close up of the poor soul. |
