Pictures: Jazz and Blues Festival at Wolf Trap; June 24, 2001

The Wolf Trap is one of the greatest places to see a large show, especially during summer festival season when jazz, blues, and reggae are lighting up the stages. This year's was a bit light on the classic jazz, focusing more on Latin Jazz and modern blues/rock hybrids, but it was still a great show. Joshua Redman was amazing, especially with his rendition of Gershwin's "Summertime" and his amazing circular breathing (Rashaan Roland Kirk would have been proud) on "Last Rites of Rock & Roll."

African world musician Femi Kuti starts the day off. Lots of bright colors and positive, upbeat tunes.

Screw his critics, Joshua Redman and his quartet tore the stage up. Awesome jazz. (I wish that dude's fat head wasn't in the picture, though.)

And afterwards, I got my CD cover signed and a quick picture taken with the man.

The Chicago Rhythm & Blues Kings.

Thelonious Monk International Jazz Festival Winner, the jazz conga player Samuel Torres.
