Yes. Don't you remember what it was like being a kid?

I don't recall being that molded by explicit marketing like that. Of course, that could be just selective memory.

I remember the imapct some ads had on me. In the early years it was mostly toy ads, but I also remember going into high school that print ads in Rolling Stone for a cologne had an impact on my self image (much more so than I would liked). I bought the cologne even though I was aware of the ad-effect at the time.

As a teacher I see it everyday. After a while you come to accept the effect that ads and celebrity endorements etc... have on teenagers. I think most people have been influenced by ads at some point in their lives unfortunately the influence has only grown in the last few years. Clothes, colognes, body-sprays, and shoes in particular have come to represent status. Most teenagers are very status conscious. Ads often dictate cool. Kids want status and want to be cool. Marketing is a critical part of a product's success. The manufacturers of Axe are geniuses in the marketing department. Disgusting--but true.

Believe me, If I was a horny 13 year old (instead of the horny 29 year old I am now...), I'd fall for the Axe commercials. Women being drawn to my scent? C'mon, that goes right to the core of a lot of male fantasies.

Fortunately, I'll stop myself right there.
