Mailing checks overseas?

Here's a stupid question: can you send a personal check from the United States overseas (say, to Poland)? Will they be able to cash it without any problems?

I need to send a few bucks and realized that I've never sent money overseas before...

I'm honestly not sure. Might be better off getting an international postal money order, though. But that's a good question.

you might want to do the int'l money order. then you can get a tracking/confirmation number. or you might want to ask the u.s. postal service.

The best way to send money is by Money Gram or by western union. It casts a little maby 5-10 bucks, but it is garrenteed. I use it to send money to my inlaws all the time.

I checked into Western Union: to send $5 to Poland, it costs $25 ($20 service fee plus the $5 you're sending). I'd rather try sending cash 5 times and hope that one of the letters gets there!

Seriously, international postal money orders work well. I've sent several to Japan and never had any problems and the fee is only a couple bucks, if I remember correctly.

Rob -- That sounds like a much better option than Western Union... now it's just a matter of making it to the Post office! :)

Argh. I guess I should've done some research before suggesting it. According to this page, you can't do it for Poland. Hrmph. There goes my abundant faith in the American postal system!
