twist of fait accomplis
Last night's shooting in Falls Church was, as Katherine noted, four miles from where we used to live. It's also across the street from the frame shop that Huyen works at once a week.
As I mentioned earlier, the first shooting in Fredericksburg was in the parking lot of where Huyen worked during one summer in college.
Too many cases of "close to home."
Not that this means anything, but there's a Michael's on the opposite side of the shopping center, behind the Home Depot, where last night's victim was shot. With an attempted shooting at a Michael's early on and then the one in Fredericksburg, that makes three loose connections to Michael's. Like I said, probably nothing, but an odd coincidence worth noting.
Last night's shooting was particuarly interesting in that this is, by far, the most populated and congested area the killer has struck. For those of you that have never been: Seven Corners is nothing short of a pain in the ass. It's literally seven streets coming together in a traffic hodgepodge. While this gives someone a number of ways to escape, it also makes it difficult because of the congested and generally disorganization of the traffic patterns.
Whatever the case, I certainly hope this all ends soon. But that should go without saying.
10:29 AMIs the DMV/MVA doing database searches of all Chevy Astro vans registered in the area? If they have any decent internal infrastructure set up, I don't think that would be difficult. Sure it might be a few thousand records, but maybe cross-check any with criminal records or a military background. And what about asking business owners who have white box trucks to look for abnormal mileage on their company vehicles, or invite the police to inspect their entire fleet and take notes on license plates and distinguishing characteristics on the vehicles (big dents, damaged paint, any writing on the vehicle, etc.).
I fear that if the person isn't caught on the way from the scene, unfortunately our best chance of getting him is when he strikes again.
And surely the Michael's connection tells us to suspect anyone named Michael.
Posted by: Mike on October 15, 2002 11:03 AMI never go to Seven Corners. It is a serious pain in the ass. But it just so happens my mom and I were in that parking lot on Sunday afternoon. I remember thinking that I felt safe there because it's not off a major highway and is a pain to navigate if you are not familiar with the area.
Talk about a false sense of security!
And now I am thinking, I wonder if the sniper was there on Sunday, checking out the scene and making plans.

Like that kid a summer ago who was trying to make a smiley face with his bombs. Maybe this person is trying to form some sort of pentagramal figure or something else. Also, as I have heard other places, Michael is one of the Archangels I believe. Maybe this nutbag is trying to play God as the tarot card said.
