twist of fait accomplis
A recent Mary Washington College graduate, Erika Grace (now Erika Sifrit), and her husband are charged with the murder of a Fairfax couple. I'd be willing to bet this is the first time this has happened in the college's history. Did any of you younger MWC folks know her? I'll have to look her up in my yearbook when I get home. (via Matt on the WMWC forums)
Updated: Here's a 1998 picture of the accused murderer from the MWC yearbook:
i saw that article this morning... she's a 2001 grad, 24 yrs old. i thought the name sounded familiar, but now i think i'm just inventing a history.
Posted by: corey on June 3, 2002 11:49 AMHoly fudge! She does look familiar, but I don't remember knowing her.
Posted by: Robert on June 3, 2002 2:01 PMI remember her, because she signed in to Mercer a lot when I was desk aide-ing there. But I didn't know her. Yikes.
Posted by: Monica on June 3, 2002 3:21 PMdudes, even this news has made it to china, thanks to rob s. i remember seeing her a few times and i may have even wanted to date her, but got enough murder with the old slayer records. i could see blood in her eyes, i 'spose.
Posted by: Brian Straight on June 4, 2002 2:08 AMYes, Ryan, one of us 'younger' folks knew her. We hung out a few times in the 98-99 school year. She seemed like a normal young woman going through the growing pains of college.
Posted by: Patrick on June 4, 2002 12:41 PMMy brother (who was on the 6 year plan at MWC) knew Erika very well. He met Benjamin quite a few times through Erika. My bro told me stories about this dude which reinforce how f'd up he was. He was supposedly a master at breaking into things (hence the lockpick kit...apparently he's not very good with silent alarms however). BJ and Erika got married in a shotgun Vegas wedding. They have a Hooters fixation hence the break-ins in OC and Fredericksburg. Well, anyway it seems like the psycho is just bitter at getting tossed (deservedly) from the Navy. I feel bad for the families of those people who got hacked up. I hope they fry BJ Sifrit.
Posted by: P. on June 5, 2002 12:45 PMI am shocked and horrified by the things they did. I always thought Erika was really nice and she didn't seem capable of doing something like this. I heard her family was not too happy with BJ. I get the feeling he corrupted her. If she had not married him she would never have done something like this. I'm not condoning what she did, but I know she was a good person before she got corrupted.
Posted by: Doug on October 4, 2002 10:44 PMI'm a 1975 MWC graduate who happened upon the Sifrits being charged with the Ocean City murders in an issue of People magazine. This site is great.Anxiously awaiting the verdict in Erika's trial.Does anyone know if a book about these two is being written?
Posted by: Kathy on June 9, 2003 7:36 PMI knew her too, she was completly unstable while they were married. Not to say BJ is a rock, but she for sure was medicated to the max.
Posted by: Mark V on June 27, 2004 2:00 PMI knew Erika very well in high school. BJ must have had some type of inpact on her because looking back through pictures taken with her at proms/parties I would have never in a million years think I would have been reading about her. God bless the families of the victims.
Posted by: C. on June 28, 2004 1:24 PMI was an english/history double major at Mary Washington College from 97-99, until I transferred to George Mason in 2000. I never had classes with Erika, but recall seeing her a few times on campus. At the time I was at MW, I remember her as a thin, well dressed girl with short curly hair.
Posted by: lee on November 5, 2006 3:31 PMWell all I can really say is that this resulted in the matter that it did. whether what was said was really what happened and if Erika took the heat for BJ. ( why I don;t have a clue, what a loser) . It is so unfortunate that all the families lose in a situation like this. I am a strong believer that one can brain wash and manipulate another especially when a supposed love is involved. My advise for Erika is that Keep doing what your doing and continue to hold your head high. You have a lot of people that love you and care about you whether you are in jail or not, That love is unconditional love and it never goes away no matter what you do.
I wish you could respond to this, because you do have someone in Kansas City, Missouri who cares about you and your future.
Yours truly,
