This season, the Africa Wildebeasts surprised everybody, including themselves and their coach, after an aggressive off-season by finishing with a 15-1 record. The defending Phallus Bowl champions entered a match of destiny against the undefeated Clemson Tigers, the only team to escape the Belly of the Beast. The full playoff story is below.
This season we wished a fond farewell to former Wildebeasts that are now pursuing their football careers elsewhere: Linus Jones, Michael Pritchard, Walter Byrd, Forest Tree, Erik Stacy, and Rod Hopkins.
In their place, we welcomed a new crop of Wildebeasts that helped us attain a previously unthought of level of excellence: Michael Dean Perry, Warren Gordon, Kelby Unger, Reuben Small, Darren Titman, and Warren Pickett.
The Africa Wildebeasts are proud to offer a line of merchandise available below. Join the excitement of being part of an award-winning squad. They just won't quit...
THE PLAYOFFS...
(WILD CARD)... Bye
(DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP) Africa narrowly pulled off a victory against the feisty Northern Iowa Panthers. A 16-point fourth quarter pushed the Wildebeasts ahead to a 21-13 victory and a slot in the conference championship. Kunta Kinta finished the day 16/18 with 2 TDs and a 143.7 rating. Hassani Mutombo recovered from a slow start and had his first 100+ yard game in a while.
(CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP) Africa had strong second and third quarters, but almost lost to the Pittburgh Gorillas in the fourth. They pulled ahead with a strong finish, however, winning 31-17. In other news, Clemson narrowly beat LSU 13-7, putting the Tigers back in the Phallus Bowl.
(PHALLUS BOWL) It was a battle, but Clemson came out ahead in a heartbreaker, 20-13. Africa was down 20-6 with 5 minutes left when they scored a key touchdown. They were driving with under two minutes left, when Vincent Carter fumbled on the Clemson 20, giving Clemson the ball back to close out the game. Clemson finished the season and playoffs undefeated at 19-0. They remained undefeated against Africa. But the Wildebeasts still hold the longest winning streak of 22 games, spanning two seasons.
THE OFF-SEASON...
(v.s. 1999/2000 AFRICA WILDEBEASTS) In an eerie time-travel, cross-dimensional game, the 2002/3 Africa Wildebeasts topped the 1999/2000 squad.
(v.s. 1972 MIAMI DOLPHINS) They may have been undefeated in 1972, but Griese and Cszonka couldn't pull anything togetther against the 'Beasts. Africa came away with a 44-6 victory with stellar performances from Kunta Kinta and Hassani Mutombo.
(v.s. 1997 DENVER BRONCOS) Perhaps the Broncos were all out drinking the night before, but they got schooled by Africa in the largest win in the franchise's history, 87-7. Hassani Mutombo ran for over 300 yards, leading the team to the most lopsided victory the league has ever seen.
